Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent from a recognised university in the relevant area of study. Candidates must also present a Portfolio of recent works and pass a selection interview.
v. MA. African Art and Culture
Candidates must have a BA/BFA/BEd degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) in any Arts discipline or its equivalent from a recognised university. Candidates must a pass (at least 60%) in research Methodology at the undergraduate level.
Candidates must submit an appropriate topic that is relevant to arts and cultures of indigenous African society and pass a selection interview.
v. MPhil. African Art and Culture
Candidates must have a BA/BFA/BEd degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) in any Arts discipline or its equivalent from a recognised university.
Candidates must a pass (at least 65%) in research Methodology at the undergraduate level. Candidates must submit a synopsis on an appropriate topic that is relevant to arts and cultures of indigenous African society and pass a selection interview.
vi. MSc. Creative Art Therapy
vii. MPhil. Creative Art Therapy
Candidates must have a Bachelors degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) in the Visual Arts, Art Education, Education, Architecture, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Psychology, Nursing, the Medical Field or any relevant discipline from a recognised university. Preference would be given to candidates with work experience in a clinical, rehabilitative or educational setting (i.e. teaching experience). MPhil candidates must show strong research background and must submit a research proposal of about 5000 words. Candidates must pass a selection interview.

Candidates must have a master’s degree from a recognised university in the relevant area of study. Candidates must also present a proposal of intended research and pass a selection interview.
xi. PhD. African Art and Culture
Candidates must have MA, MFA of MPhil degree in any Arts discipline from a recognised university. Candidates must show evidence of research scholarship;
Thesis, Project Report, Journal or other acceptable publication.
Candidates must submit a comprehensive Research Proposal on an appropriate topic in the Arts and pass a selection interview.
2. Department of Industrial Art
i. MFA. Ceramics
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in BFA/BA in Ceramics (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division).
Candidates must submit ten images of work (portfolio) and one-page artist statement and pass a selection interview.
ii. MFA. Jewellery and Metalsmithing
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Metalsmithing and/or Jewelry. Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidates Portfolio.
iii. MFA. Textiles Design
Candidates must have a BSc, BA, or BTech degree in Textile/Fashion with a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) or its equivalent.
Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates shall pass a slection interview.
iv. MPhil. Textile Design Technology
Candidates must have a BSc, BA, or BTech degree in Textile with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal and pass a selection interview.
v. MPhil. Ceramic Technology
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent in Ceramics, Materials Science and Engineering or a related Engineering or Science field.
Candidates with qualifications in disciplines other than Ceramics, Materials Science and Engineering may be required to audit some undergraduate courses to ensure that they have acquired aptitude in the Ceramic field. Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal and pass a selection interview. vi. MPhil. Fashion Design Technology
Candidates must have a BSc, BA, or BTech degree in Textile/Fashion with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal and pass a selection interview.
vii. MPhil. Integrated Art Areas of Specialization:
• Fibres and Fabrics Technology
• Leather Technology
• Clay and Earthenware Technology
• Woodworking Technology
• Metals Fabrication Technology
• Bamboo and Ratan Technology
• Product Design Technology
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Integrated Rural Art and Industry or Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field. Candidates with Master of Integrated Art and Industry degree will be admitted to the Second Year of the MPhil programme. Candidates with a Second Class (Lower Division) and considerable relevant professional experience may also apply. Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio and pass a selection interview in the areas of specialization.
viii. PhD. Ceramic Technology
Candidates must have a two-year research-based Master’s degree or its equivalent in Ceramic Technology or any field of specialization relevant to the programme from a recognised university.
Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal (synopsis) and pass a selection interview. Candidates with Master’s degree in Ceramic Art would be required to register some of the Ceramic core courses of the MPhil.
Ceramic Technology programme in addition to the PhD taught courses.
ix. PhD Textile Design Technology
Candidates must have a two-year research-based Masters’ degree in Textile (e.g. MFA/MPhil) or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal and pass a selection interview.
x. PhD Fashion Design Technology
Candidates must have a two-year research-based Masters’ degree in Fashion Design (e.g., MFA/MPhil) or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Admission into the programme will be based on the assessment of the candidate’s portfolio. Candidates shall be required to submit a research proposal and pass a selection interview.
3. Department of Publishing Studies
i. MA. Publishing Studies (One Year)
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) from a recognised institution.
Other related qualifications with work experience may be considered. Preference would be given to candidates with a minimum of two years work experience. Candidates shall be required pass a selection interview.
ii. MPhil. Publishing Studies
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Publishing Studies, English Language, Communication Design, Information Studies, Information Science, Library Studies, Communication and Media Studies, Journalism and Media, Graphic Design, Printing Technology, etc. from a recognised institution.
Preference would be given to candidates with a minimum of two years work experience. Candidates shall be required pass a selection interview.
iii. MPhil. Publishing Studies (Top-Up) Candidates must have MA Publishing Studies degree or MPhil degree from a related discipline with a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Publishing Studies. Preference would be given to candidates with a minimum of three years work experience from the Publishing, Design, or Multimedia industries. Candidates shall be required pass a selection interview.
4. Department of Communication Design
i. MComm. Design
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in one of the pathway areas in Communication design or design related programme. Candidates in addition, must have a minimum of two years professional work experience, and further demonstrate the appropriate intellectual, creative and personal qualities to pursue the programme. Candidates must be able to demonstrate, through the submission and review of a portfolio and through a selection interview, a level of knowledge and competence appropriate to the demands of the programme, and to demonstrate the potential to benefit from that study.
ii. MPhil. Communication Design
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in one of the pathway areas in Communication design or design related programme.
Candidates shall be required to submit a 2-page summary of proposal for which a competent supervisor is readily available. Candidates shall be required to produce a good professional portfolio and pass a selection interview. Candidates shall be selected on the basis of a body of work/proposal that will demonstrate an advanced understanding of the subject/area, sufficient knowledge and technical skill to realise intentions. Candidates shall be required to demonstrate evidence of commitment to the subject; research and intellectual curiosity, critical design-thinking; open-mindedness; the ability to collaborate, to engage in research and debate, and respond communicatively to criticism.
iii. PhD. Visual Communication Design
Candidates must have a good two-year research-based Master’s degree (MFA/MPhil) in any design focused disciplines or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Candidates with three or more years of professional design experience demonstrated by portfolio and testimonials may be considered if the candidate’s Master’s degree is in a related or complementary field. Candidates shall be required to submit a summary of proposal that he/she intends to work on and for which a competent supervisor is readily available. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview.
