KNUST: LIST OF MPHIL AND MSC. PROGRAMMES UNDER COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

1. Department of Nursing


i. MSc. Clinical Nursing
ii. MPhil. Nursing
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Nursing or similar qualifications from a recognised university. Candidates must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana or its equivalent from other countries. Candidates must have a minimum of two years work experience after the Bachelor’s degree programme in a relevant area i.e. health facility, public health unit or a health training institution. Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) degrees must have a minimum of three years post qualification work experience in a relevant area.

2. Department of Physiotherapy and Sports Science


i. MPhil. Clinical Rehabilitation and Exercise Therapy
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Sport and exercise Science, Human Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Occupation Therapy, Human Nutrition, Allied Health Sciences. Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) must have at least two years post qualification experience with relevant profession and would be required to pass a selection interview.

Candidates who have Masters degree in Natural Sciences with work experience related to Physical Therapy, Sports Medicine and Exercise Science may be considered. Evidence of at least one publication in a peer review journal would be a major added advantage.

3. Department of Medical Diagnostics

i. MPhil. Haematology
Candidates must BSc degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science with relevant professional registration and a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical practice.
ii. MPhil. Medical Imaging
Candidates must BSc degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent in Medical Imaging field Science with relevant professional registration and a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical practice.
iii. PhD. Haematology
Candidates should have an MSc/MPhil or its equivalent in Haematology or biomedical sciences. Candidates must attend and pass a selection interview.
iv. PhD. Medical Imaging
Candidates should have an MSc/MPhil or its equivalent in Medical Imaging field. Candidates must attend and pass a selection interview.

  • SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY

1. Department of Molecular Medicine

i. MPhil. Chemical Pathology
ii. MPhil. Molecular Medicine
iii. MPhil. Immunology
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology and MBChB. Preference would be given to candidates with at least one year work experience. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
iv. PhD. Chemical Pathology
v. PhD. Molecular Medicine
vi. PhD. Immunology
Candidates must have an MSc/MPhil degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology. Candidates with MBChB and Membership with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons or similar institution would be required to undertake a one-year MPhil equivalent after which they may be migrated onto the PhD programme. Preference would be given to candidates with at least one year work experience. Candidate must attend and pass a selection interview.

2. Department of Clinical Microbiology

i. MPhil. Clinical Microbiology
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent in Life Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Biology or Biochemistry.
ii. PhD. Clinical Microbiology
Candidates must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent in Clinical Microbiology from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates are entreated to contact a potential supervisor at the Department before proceeding to apply.

3. Department of Anatomy

i. MPhil. Human Anatomy and Cell Biology
ii. MPhil. Human Anatomy and Cell Biology (Morphological Diagnostics)
iii. MPhil. Human Anatomy and Forensic Science

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Biological Sciences, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, MBChB or its equivalent from a recognised Institution. Candidates must have a flare for laboratory work or research. Candidates are required to submit a research synopsis together with the application. Candidates must show proof of their source of funding and pass a selection interview.
iv. MPhil. Mortuary Science and Management
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Herbal Medicine, Biochemistry, Allied Health Sciences, Chemistry or related disciplines from a recognised University. Candidates are required to submit a research synopsis together with the application. Candidates should have a flare for laboratory work or research. Candidates must show proof of their source of funding and pass a selection interview.
v. PhD. Human Anatomy and Cell Biology
vi. PhD. Human Anatomy and Forensic Science

Candidates must have a good MSc/MPhil/MMedSc degree in Human Anatomy and Cell Biology, Human Anatomy and Forensic Science, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised University. Candidates are required to submit a research synopsis together with the application. Candidates must have a flare for laboratory work or research. Candidates must show proof of their source of funding and pass a selection interview.

4. Department of Physiology

i. MPhil. Physiology
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Herbal Medicine, Biochemistry, Allied Health Sciences or a degree in of the Life Sciences or MBChB from a recognised University. Candidates should have a flare for laboratory work or research. Candidates must show proof of their source of funding and pass a selection interview.

5. Department of Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat

i. MSc. Audiology
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Psychology, Special Education, Nursing, Medicine, Neurology or Applied Sciences. Candidates with other degrees or equivalent may be considered on their own merits. Candidates must show proof of their source of funding and pass a selection interview.

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

i. MPhil. One Health
Candidates must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or its equivalent, MBChB, BSc Dental Surgery, PharmD, or Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Agriculture (Animal Science option) and relevant subject areas; from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
ii. MPhil. Integrative Pathobiology
Candidates must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, MBChB, BSc Dental Surgery, Doctor of Pharmacy or its equivalent, BSc. (Microbiology, Biological Sciences and Human Biology) with minimum of Second Class (Lower Division). Candidates must pass a selection interview.
iii. MPhil. Comparative Anatomy
Candidates must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), MBChB, BSc Dental Surgery, Doctor of Pharmacy, or Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Agriculture (Animal Science option) and relevant subject areas; from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
iv. Master of Veterinary Science in Anatomy
Candidate must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM, BVetMed, VetMB), Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S, BVMS, BVetMS) degree or equivalent professional degree from an approved Veterinary Institution of Higher Learning. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
v. PhD. Integrative Pathobiology
Candidates must have an MPhil. Integrative Pathobiology or MPhil/MSc degree in Veterinary Sciences, Biological or Biomedical Sciences in addition to any of following: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, BSc. (Microbiology, Biological Sciences and Human Biology) with minimum of Second Class (Lower Division), MBChB, BSc Dental Surgery, Doctor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Pharmacy. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
vi. PhD. One Health
Candidates must have an MPhil. One Health degree from KNUST. MPhil degree in One Health or equivalent degrees from other recognised universities may be considered on their own merit.
vii. PhD. Veterinary Anatomy
Candidates must have an MPhil. Comparative Anatomy and MVSc Anatomy from KNUST. MPhil. degree in Veterinary Anatomy or equivalent degree from other recognised may be considered on their own merit.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

PhD. Public Health
Candidates must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent, from a recognised institution and shall provide evidence of adequate training and financial support to undertake the proposed programme. A demonstrable scientific publication or good writing skills will be an advantage.

Department of Health Education, Promotion and Disability Studies

i. MPhil. Disability, Rehabilitation and Development (Full Time/ Weekend)
Practicing professionals/graduates with a first degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Disability and Allied disciplines, Health related Sciences, Education and Education Psychology, Social Services or Social Work, Sports and Exercise Science, Architecture, Policy Planning, or Social Sciences. Candidates must pass a selection interview.

Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health

i. MSc. Population and Reproductive Health (One Year – Full Time/ Weekend)
ii. MPH. Population and Reproductive Health (One Year – Full Time/ Weekend)
Candidates must have a first degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in any of the life sciences such as: Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing/Midwifery, Public Health, Environmental Health, Pharmacy, Physician Assistantship, Medical Laboratory Science or Health related sectors such as the Social Sciences, Development and Education from a recognised university/college. Candidates should have at least two years post-graduation work/job experience.

Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety

i. MSc. Occupational and Environmental Health & Safety (One Year – Full Time/ Weekend)
ii. MPH. Occupational and Environmental Health & Safety (One Year – Full Time/ Weekend)

Candidates must have a first degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) from a recognised tertiary institution preferably in any of the Natural Sciences such as Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Pharmacy, or health-related disciplines such as the Social Sciences, Development Studies, and Education, etc. Candidates must pass a selection interview.

Department of Health Policy, Management and Economics

i. MSc. Health Services Planning and Management (One Year – Regular)
ii. MPH. Health Services Planning and Management (One Year – Weekend)
iii. MSc. Health Systems Research and Management (Regular)
iv. MPH. Health Systems Research and Management (Weekend)
v. MPhil. Health Systems Research and Management (Regular/ Weekend)

Candidates should have a first degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)), preferably in any Public Health related field, Statistics/ Biostatistics; Biology; Medicine or other health related sciences; Political Science or Economics; Sociology or related Social Sciences, Development and Education. In addition, candidates should have at least two years post-graduation work/job experience. Relevant international work experience is an advantage and applications. Candidates must pass a selection interview.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

i. MPhil. Field Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) from a recognised tertiary institution in any of the Natural Sciences such as: Biology, Allied Health Sciences, Medical Sciences, Biostatistics/Statistics/Actuarial Science, Mathematics or any Public Health related field. Candidates with MPH or Masters in any of the Public Health disciplines can apply. A demonstration of quantitative analytical skills would be of added advantage. In addition, candidates should have at least two (2) years post-graduation work/job experience. Candidates must pass a selection interview.

Department of Global and International Health

i. MPH. Global Health (One Year)
Candidates applying to pursue any of the MSc/MPH/MPhil programmes, must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) from a recognised tertiary institution preferably in any of the natural sciences such as medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, public health, environmental sciences, biology, pharmacy or health-related sectors such as the social sciences, development studies and education. Candidates must have at least two years post-qualification work experience.
