FACULTY OF LAW


i. Master of Laws (LLM)
Candidates must have Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent from a recognised university. Candidates may be admitted to the programme upon successful selection interview.
ii. PhD. Law
Candidates must have a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from a recognised university. An applicant who does not satisfy the stated criteria but is adjudged suitable by the Faculty Board, may be admitted to the programme upon a successful selection interview.

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Department of Economics

i. MSc. Economics (One Year)
ii. MSc. Health Economics (One Year)
iii. MSc. Economics and Finance (One Year)
iv. MSc. Business Economics (One Year)
v. MSc. Energy and Resource Economics (One Year)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in the Economics (with Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Law, Sociology, Political Science and History), Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Actuarial Science, Environmental Science, Land Economy, Natural Resources Management, Geography, Geography and Resource Development, Geography and Rural Development, Geography and Regional Planning, Development Studies and related disciplines. Admission is subject to passing an entrance examination.
vi. MPhil. Economics
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Economics. Candidates must have done Econometrics, Advanced Economic Theory and Mathematics for Economists at the undergraduate level in a recognised tertiary institution. Admission is subject to passing a selection interview.
vii. PhD. Economics
Candidates must have a first degree in Economics, Second Class (Upper Division) plus an MPhil (with an average grade not less than a B or equivalent) in Economics or related field with sufficient background in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics from a recognised tertiary institution. A good background in econometrics, statistics and mathematics will be an added advantage. Admission is subject to passing an interview.

1. Department of Language and Communication Sciences

i. MPhil. French
Options:

  • Literature and Society
  • Applied Linguistics
  • Translation and Interpreting

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in French or a postgraduate qualification relevant to the area of study from a recognised University. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a written examination and a selection interview.

ii. PhD. French

Options:

  • Literature and Society
  • Applied Linguistics
  • Translation and Interpreting

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in French from a recognised University and must submit a research proposal. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.

Department of English

i. MPhil. English
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in English. Shortlisted candidates would be examined and interviewed.
ii. PhD. English
Candidates must have an MA/MPhil degree in English. Prospective Candidates are required to discuss their research topics with the Head of Department or any Senior Member in the Department.

Department of Geography and Rural Development

i. MSc. Geography and Sustainable Development (One Year)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Geography or other related disciplines. Candidates shall be considered at a selection interview.
ii. MPhil. Geography and Rural Development
Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Geography or other Geography related disciplines. Candidates shall be required to submit a synopsis of proposed thesis and pass a selection interview.
iii. PhD. Geography and Rural Development
Candidates must have a Master’s degree with good research background in Geography or other Geography related disciplines. Candidates shall be required to submit and present a thesis proposal and pass a selection interview.

Department of Religious Studies

i. MA. Religious Studies (One Year)
Candidates must have obtained Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. Applicants with a good Bachelor’s degree in any discipline other than Religious Studies or Theology, may apply for the MA programme. Admission for both groups is subject to passing a selection interview.
ii. MPhil. Religious Studies

Candidates must have obtained Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. Candidates with Social Sciences or Humanities background must in addition have a Diploma in Theology/Religious Studies from a recognised

University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. Admission for both groups is subject to passing a selection interview.
iii. PhD. Religious Studies
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Religious Studies or Theology with extensive research from a recognised University or Theological Seminary/Institution. A candidate with a one-year Master’s degree in Religious/Theology Studies will be made to take the first year courses in the MPhil. Religious Studies programme at the Department. The applicant should pass all courses and attain a minimum CWA of 70 or better and demonstrate the capacity for independent research before they could be considered for admission into the PhD programme. Admission for both groups is subject to passing a selection interview.

Department of Sociology and Social Work

i. MA. Sociology (One Year)
ii. MPhil. Sociology

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Sociology or Social Work from a recognised University. A Postgraduate Diploma in the Humanities from an Accredited University with at least two years work experience. Any relevant Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) from an accredited University with at least two years Social Development experience. All candidates must pass a selection interview.
iii. MA. Social Work (One Year)
iv. MPhil. Social Work

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Social Work or any Social Science discipline with at least one-year Social Development experience, or any relevant Bachelor’s degree, with at least a Second Class (Lower Division), from an accredited University with at least two years social development experience.
v. PhD. Sociology
Candidates must have an MPhil degree in Sociology. Other candidates with second degree in relevant field other than Sociology and have a strong research background may be admitted. Such applicants will take the first year courses in MPhil. Sociology programme and must attain a CWA of 70 or above before pursuing the PhD programme. In addition, all candidates will be interviewed.

Department of History and Political Studies

i. MA. Chieftaincy and Traditional Leadership (One Year)
Candidates must have a good first degree in any of the Social Sciences or Humanities degree from an accredited University. Candidates with degrees in other disciplines with related experience/background in Chieftaincy and Traditional Leadership may also be offered admission. Students who obtain a CWA of 70 or above at the end of the first year could proceed to do MPhil. Chieftaincy and Traditional Leadership Studies.
ii. Master of Public Administration (Full Time/Weekend)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in all disciplines. Third Class candidates with more than five years work experience in the public sector may be considered for admission after passing a selection interview.
iii. MA. Asante History (One Year)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in History or other related degrees from accredited universities. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
iv. MPhil. Historical Studies
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in History or other related degrees from accredited universities. Candidates must pass a selection interview.
