FACULTY OF CIVIL AND GEO-ENGINEERING
1. Department of Civil Engineering
i. MSc. Geotechnical Engineering (Accra and Kumasi Centres, Weekend)
ii. MPhil. Geotechnical Engineering (Full-Time)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or any field of specialization relevant to the programme from a recognized University. Candidates with other qualifications shall be interviewed by an admissions committee and, if necessary, may be required to take a written examination before admission. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have relevant experience, qualification and pass the interview shall be admitted.
iii. MSc. Structural Engineering (Accra and Kumasi Centres, Weekend)
iv. MPhil. Structural Engineering (Full-Time)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Civil Engineering, from a recognized University. Admission may be offered to candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) provided they have considerable relevant professional experience. Candidates who do not satisfy the above requirements but is otherwise adjudged suitable by the Departmental Board shall, where applicable be interviewed for admission. Candidates who have a Postgraduate Diploma with substantial professional experience may be considered for admission. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have relevant experience, qualification and pass the interview will be admitted.
v. PhD. Geotechnical Engineering
Candidates must have Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering and other relevant disciplines, with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60. Candidates with some publications in a journal as first author have an advantage. Candidates must provide evidence of current and previous employments. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have relevant experience, qualification and pass the interview will be admitted.
vi. PhD. Structural Engineering Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and other relevant disciplines, with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60. Candidates with some publications in a journal as first author have an advantage. Candidates must provide evidence of current and previous employments. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have relevant experience, qualification and pass the interview will be admitted.
REGIONAL WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION CENTRE KUMASI (RWESCK)
All candidates to be admitted in the 2022/2023 academic year to pursue MSc./MPhil./PhD. degree programmes under RWESCK will be FEE PAYING without funding from RWESCK. Applicants are encouraged to visit RWESCK websites and social media platforms for available research grants.

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering and other programmes relevant to water resources, or any field of specialisation relevant to the water resources industry from a recognized University. Candidates with other qualifications shall be interviewed and if necessary, may be required to take a written examination before admission. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have good motivational statement, relevant experience and who pass the interview will be admitted.
ix. MSc. Disaster Prevention and Management (Accra and Kumasi Centres, Weekend)

xi. MSc. Water Supply Engineering and Management (Accra and Kumasi Centres, Weekend)
xii. MPhil. Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (Full-Time)
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent from a recognised University in Civil or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or any field of specialisation relevant to the water and sanitation industry. Candidates with other qualifications shall be interviewed and if necessary, may be required to take a written examination before admission. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have good motivational statement, relevant experience and who pass the interview will be admitted.
xiii. PhD. Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management
Candidates must have a good Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation, Civil Engineering (sanitary option), Environmental Engineering, Environmental science/management, Chemical Engineering, chemistry and other relevant physical science disciplines, with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60. Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have good motivational statement, relevant experience and pass the selection interview will be admitted.
Candidates must submit a research proposal on the following research themes and prepare for presentation at the selection interview:
• Waste management: Innovative technology and solid waste management using Artificial Intelligence and data analytics, waste processing technology to enhance industrial symbiosis and ecoefficiency in circular economy, low-cost on-site sanitation technologies.
• Waste treatment: Innovative waste treatment and conversion technology such as waste-to-green energy, waste-to-fertilizers with nutrients amendments, and food waste-to-animal feed, thermal treatment and bio-adsorbents for faecal sludge treatment and odour control, remediation of industrial wastewater and artisanal gold mine sites.
xiv. PhD. Water Resources Engineering and Management
Candidates must have a good Master’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering option), Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Natural Resources, Mathematics, or any other relevant discipline from a recognised institution, with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60.
Candidates shall be interviewed and those who have good motivational statement, relevant experience and pass the interview will be admitted. Candidates must submit a research proposal on the following research themes and prepare for presentation at the selection interview: Computational flow dynamics (CFD), digital real-time systems, artificial intelligence and data analytics, tools and innovative technologies, GIS, remote sensing, web-based application and water isotope for;
• Waste management: flood management, hydrological modelling, and urban water cycle management, irrigation water management,
• Groundwater and hydrogeology: managed-aquifer recharge, groundwater recharge modelling, optimising soil moisture dynamics,
• Climate resilience systems: climate resilience water resources management.
xv. PhD. Water Supply and Treatment Technology
Candidates must have a good Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (Water Treatment), Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and other relevant physical science disciplines, with a minimum CWA of 60. Candidates will be interviewed and those who have good motivational statement, relevant experience and pass the interview will be admitted. Candidates must submit a research proposal on the following research themes and prepare for presentation at the selection interview:
• Water treatment: Removal of groundwater contaminants using innovative nanomaterials, membrane modules and adsorbents (metaloxide coated media and zeolites) in drinking water treatment.
• Water Supply Management: Optimising water supply systems management with Artificial Intelligence applications and SMART water instrumentation, and the application of tools and robotics technology for water distribution leakage reduction, and non-revenue water management.

xvi. PhD. Highway and Transportation Engineering
Candidates must have a good Master’s degree in Road and Transport Engineering, Transport Planning, Transport Systems, Civil Engineering (Transportation and Highway option), or other related disciplines with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60. Applicants should submit a research proposal on any of the following priority interdisciplinary research themes and prepare for presentation at the selection interview:
• Traffic Management and Smart Cities: Road Safety Management, Modelling and Simulation of Intersections and Congested Urban Networks, Urban Transport and Public Health, Traffic Accessibility, Equity and Justice. Parking Management in Smart Cities, Artificial Intelligence and Smart Mobility, Driverless Systems. Tolling Systems, Transport Economics.
• Resilient and Inclusive Transport Infrastructure: Smart Infrastructure, Innovative Materials in Pavement Engineering, Road Asset Management Systems, IoT Application in Transport Asset Management
• Public Transport Planning, Policy, Gender and Governance: Travel Demand Forecasting, Paratransit in African Cities, Sustainable Urban Mobility planning, Gender perspectives to Travel and Policy, Inclusive Public Transport in Smart Cities
• Integrated Transport Logistics and Green Supply Chains: Sustainable Logistics Management. Intermodality and Freight Transport Operations, Freight Transport Modelling, Technology and Big Data on Freight Transport and Logistics, Urban Goods Movement, Transportation System, Freight Transportation Externalities.
2. Department of Geomatic Engineering
i. MSc. Geomatic Engineering
ii. MPhil. Geomatic Engineering
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent from a recognised University in the relevant field of study. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview to determine their suitability and preparedness or otherwise for the programme.
iii. MPhil. Geographic Information System Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent from a recognised university in Engineering, Surveying, Architecture, Building Technology, Planning, Land Economy, Real Estate, Agriculture, Landscape Design & Management, Natural Resource Management, Forest Resource Technology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Meteorology and Climate Science, or Geography and Rural Development. Candidates with Pass in any of the areas listed above must have in addition, a minimum of two (2) years post-graduate industrial work experience. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview to determine their suitability and preparedness or otherwise for the programme.
iv. PhD. Geomatic Engineering
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Geomatic Engineering or its equivalent from a recognised Institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview to determine their suitability and preparedness or otherwise for the programme.
3. Department of Geological Engineering
i. MSc. Geophysical Engineering
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Geophysics, Physics, Geology, Earth Science, Agricultural Engineering or any field of 20 specialisation relevant to the programme from a recognised University.
Candidates with a Second Class (Lower Division) must have at least three (3) years of relevant experience. Candidates with degrees in other engineering/science disciplines (e.g. Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, etc.) may be required to take prerequisite courses to make up for deficiencies in undergraduate geological sciences.
ii. MPhil. Geological Engineering
Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in Geological Engineering, Geology or any earth science related field from a recognised University. Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) in Geological Engineering, Geology or any earth science related field from a recognised University must have at least three (3) years of relevant experience.
iii. PhD. Geological Engineering
Candidates must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent in Geology, Geological Engineering or any earth science related field from a recognised institution, and must provide evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake a proposed research.
