GRIDCo Supports KNUST SONSOL Project With 10 Brand-New Laptop Computers

A delegation from the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), led by Honourable (Mrs.) Particia Appiagyei, the Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region and a Board member of GRIDCo has donated Ten (10) brand-new Dell laptop computers to support ten (10) brilliant but needy students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, under the Vice-Chancellor’s SONSOL Project. The presentation was made on Friday, 25th August 2023 at the Council Chamber.

According to Hon. (Mrs.) Appiagyei, access to information and technology in today’s digital age is essential for personal and academic growth, as a result, GRIDCo is pleased to support KNUST with these laptops to ensure that no deserving student is left behind due to lack of resources. She noted that GRIDCo is proud to be part of the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative that commits to bridging the digital divide and provide equal opportunities to all students, regardless of their financial backgrounds. ‘GRIDCo is confident that by supporting the education of these brilliant minds, we are investing in the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of Ghana,’ she stressed. Hon. (Mrs.) Appiagyei added that GRIDCo as an engineering company, has partnered with KNUST to provide support in the areas of internship opportunities for Engineering and Social Sciences students, Collaborated on a number of Research activities, Capacity Building, among others. She further disclosed of their intention to support the KNUST GIRLS’ STEM Camp slated for the month of September. She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the laptops and utilise them for their intended purpose.

Receiving the laptops, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson said that the training of professionals with the requisite skill set for Africa’s development and the job market is a collective responsibility between the university, industry, and organisations like GRIDCo. She lauded the Management of GRIDCo for their kind gesture and hoped for continuous collaboration.

On her own behalf and the other beneficiaries, Miss Benedicta Ameworlor, a first-year student studying BSc. Human Biology expressed their utmost gratitude to the Management of GRIDCo and the Vice-Chancellor for their generous contributions. She assured the gathering of their commitment to use the laptops for their academic pursuits.

Present at the meeting from the GRIDCo delegation were Hon. F.F. Anto, Board Member; Ama Haywood-Dadzie, Company Secretary; Ing. Peter Acquah, Kumasi Area Manager; Ing. Bismark Oppong-Anane, Network Maintenance Manager and Celestina Asigri, Corporate Communications Officers.

Also present were the Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, the Dean of Quality Assurance and Planning Office, Professor Jerry John Kponyo and Mr. Isaac Marfo, of the University Relation Office.
